The deployment of the LinkNYC kiosk, a good basic prototype for any city that becomes “smart” or “connected”, is back in the news thanks to a joint effort involving the launch of Avengers: Infinity War.
In one of the first campaigns of its kind, more than 1,400 screens in approximately 700 of these public Wi-Fi stations implemented by the company backed by Sidewalk Labs Intersection were taken by Marvel and Disney in the premiere blockbuster of the opening night of 5 pm to 7 pm ET. The screens featured favorite superhero characters in their element and the Avengers posing in group formation before inviting Big Apple pedestrians to “See It Tonight.” The next day, the Links began to offer an integration with Moviefone to generate awareness, ticket sales and theater visits in addition to listings of location-specific shows and countdown detection clocks.
