With Integrated Systems Europe now in the rearview mirror, our industry is focusing its collective attention on Digital Signage Expo later this month in Las Vegas.
The digital signage industry consists mainly of perennial assistants in DSE. But every year there is a considerable harvest of exhibitors for the first time: last year, of the 255 companies in the showroom, 74 were first-time exhibitors. If those numbers are true this year, that means that almost three out of 10 exhibitors will attend for the first time. These new exhibitors seem to fall into two fields: newly-established relatively unknown companies that try to enter the market, and well-known technology brands that try to enter the digital signage space laterally. I am particularly intrigued by the latter. Our market has grown well beyond its traditional signaling roots and it is understandable that large companies try to make their way in our market to make money quickly.
